Bell's Mill

I remember when I was a kid a man jumped off Bell's Mill Bridge near Trotters old store, he drowned. My brother fished there, he told me there's only 10 feet or so of water, except for a crevice under the water, it has a wicked current so never go in the water. No one knows how deep it is, this chasm in the muddy water. I'm not the type to go in the water anyway, but I never did. My sister is afraid of the wind, she held the hem of my shirt and wouldn't blink.

We didn't live far from there. I saw the man when they pulled him out, he was a slimy corpse, it was like his face was shadowed by a lamp, he swole up like circus balloons, his blueish face frozen like that forever.
