Shrift

Everyone will see the diamonds in the dirt, gold in the mud, blue jewels in the rain. There'll be beautiful blood-red clouds, ghostly silence and every gray mare in the field parading like a filly, the Arabian prancing, they know who owns the pasture, magnificent grace when you see it, poetry in motion, movement in still-life, angels can chain an old serpent, the stubbornness of a farm-pig, one prayer away, the wild forest strawberries and pine straw, a fat blueberry, a Persian lilac in a grove of cobra lily, the nectar the bee has on its legs, the little yellow bits of dust, the enduring sickness of watching the sun break through the morning branches and leaves, life with a broken heart, sunset and sunrise in a glass jar like fireflies, two hearts having the same melancholy and art in them, God is with you everywhere, be prayerful and in sorrow, seek happiness, ask for mercy, your bruises will heal, embrace the gulf of growing flowers, if God heals me, I will be healed, if God heals you, you will be healed.
